Adopt Mona Monkey 'Precious Love'

Adoptions are available as a either monthly (£5.00/month) or a one time payment for 6 months (£25.00) or 12 months (£50.00). Your adoption will help to support 'Precious Love's care during that time;  you will receive a fridge magnet with 'Precious Love's' photo, an adoption certificate and quarterly adoption newsletter for the period of your adoption. PRECIOUS LOVE'S STORY: Little 'Precious Love' is a female mona monkey - she arrived as a tiny one-week old orphan when one of our primate care staff confiscated her from a neighbour and required full time care from our volunteer veterinary nurse. It is illegal to keep pet monkeys, but the law is rarely enforced - the neighbour had acquired her only the day before from a relative who had been out hunting in an area about 60 km from the centre. She was named jointly  by CERCOPAN (Precious) and the family she had been living with (Love) - it is a very typical Nigerian name and very apt as she arrived at CERCOPAN on Valentine's Day! It was a very lucky day for her as it was unlikely she would have survived for much longer; she was extremely dehydrated and weighed only 250 grams on arrival (birth weight is 350 gms). She took immediately to the bottle, and after some digestive adjustments to the infant formula, began to thrive. She is now with several other rescued juvenile mona monkeys - her favourite the largest, although still very much a juvenile, little male 'Scooby'. Your adoption will help 'Precious Love' get the care she needs to thrive. We hope she may one day move to the forest site and join our ground breaking reintroduction programme there.
