Rhoko has welcomed students from Lancaster, Liverpool, Oxford
Brookes and Reading Universities since 2003. Masters research projects have
included impacts of selective logging on tree biodiversity, sustainability of
duiker hunting, and comparison of parasites in semi free-ranging and captive
primates. Many more opportunities exist for further study, and Rhoko is an ideal
and safe environment from which to carry out any number of studies, including,
but definitely not limited to, primate behaviour.
Sagan Friant (pictured left),
an MSc student from Oxford Brookes University, had this to say about her
experience:
"From the sanctuary in Calabar to Rhoko research station and Iko Esai
community forest, CERCOPAN encompasses so many aspects of conservation. The best
part of my experience with CERCOPAN was having the opportunity to use years of
theoretical knowledge on a practical scale. My project was based on parasitic
diseases in captive and semi-captive primates with the goal of using information
towards future management decisions and release programs. This research always
came first and foremost and I had all the support I needed. Mostly, I was happy
to be able to delve into all aspects of the organization and get the most out of
the whole experience"
