Main Camp
Main camp is well equipped with a main living area, office, tool
storage, fuel storage, a 4x4 Toyota pickup, solar power and both VHF and HF
communication between Iko Esai, Rhoko Camp and Calabar. Daily transfer of
important information between head office and camp are now a reality. CERCOPAN
permanent senior staff and long term students reside at main camp, in 5 private
sleeping sheds; security post, shower and toilet facilities and kitchen complete main
camp.
Education Centre
The Education Centre is located 500m from Main Camp at the entrance to
the protected forest. It was completed and decorated in July 2003, complete with
interpretive displays. Over seventy-two feet of panels have been decorated with
information and photographs of primates, rainforest, threats, Cercopan’s work,
habitat and much more. Local schools assisted in the decoration by participating
in a banner-painting contest. Five banners are decorating the centre now,
including the prize winning banner. The centre is fills many needs and is used
for student lectures, staff meetings, visitor reception and even the occasional
party! |

Student/Guest Facilities:
Student and guest
accommodation consists of three sleeping sheds, a cooking area and
bathing facilities. In April 2003 two groups of 10 university students
from the University of Calabar (UNICAL) tested the newly completed student facilities for a week long
field course taught by both CERCOPAN and UNICAL staff, and gave it the thumbs
up. We have also had visiting undergraduate and MSc students from Lancaster, Liverpool,
Oxford Brookes and Reading Universities. |
