CERCOPAN

Up Nicky's Run
Nicky volunteered with CERCOPAN for almost 4 years and is now back in UK raising funds to help us with our work.  She ran the Cardiff Half marathon on October 14, 2007 for CERCOPAN and plans to do more runs in the future.  Here's what NIcky says about her reasons for continuing to help fundraise

"CERCOPAN has a very integrated approach to conservation of primates, working closely with local communities to develop alternative livelihoods to hunting, raising awareness with over 50 schools, receiving over 30,000 visitors a years (all for free) to the primate rehabilitation and education centre, protecting over 3000 hectares of tropical rainforest and carrying out research on the rainforest and all the plants and animals inside.  It's amazing how little is known about this rainforest and the last 4 surveys carried out at CERCOPAN's rainforest centre at Rhoko, have produced new species or new subspecies.  Incredible!  At the end of the day, CERCOPAN cares for over 130 monkeys, most of them orphans from the bushmeat trade and illegal hunting activities.  CERCOPAN needs your help to address these issues, raise awareness in the schools, help the local communities to develop alternative livelihoods so that their rainforest can be preserved, carry out research and most importantly, look after and care for these endangered and unique primates.

The run was completed in the excellent time of 2 hrs 10 mins, and we are keeping the sponsorship link open until the end of October, when we will post the total amount she raised.

Please consider sponsoring Nicky - for as little as £2, or as much as you like, anything will help spur her on!

Thank you for your support.
